Many people have taken up the art of candle making at home not just as a spare-time activity, but also as a financial benefit. However, there are some rules to comply, if you’d like your hobby or business of candle making at home to be a success. Initially, you will have to collect the necessary tools and ingredients needed, and what is not available with you, can be bought from a craft store. The main tools and ingredients you’ll need are moulds; scented oil; wicks; a double boiler; dye, a whisk; thermometer; and most importantly, the wax.
The different kinds of wax available for purchase are beeswax, soy wax, paraffin wax, and so on. However, apart from the paraffin wax which is most commonly used in candle making, you could go green and save the environment by opting for beeswax, or soy wax. At first, you’ll need to put the wax in your double boiler and heat it. While heating the wax, make sure that the temperature does not go over 180° Fahrenheit.
Nevertheless, it is crucial that the wax when heated must be in a totally liquid state. After it has reached this liquid state, select the dye you want and mix it with the wax using the whisk. When you’re satisfied with the wax color, you can add the amount of scented oil you want and once more, using the whisk, mix them both together thoroughly.
Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the wax after reducing it to 150°. After the temperature has been lowered, carefully pour the hot wax into your candle moulds. In the center of each mould with wax, carefully place the wicks. Keep the moulds aside for a minimum of five hours to allow the candles to cool down completely, and then remove them.
After you’ve mastered the art of candle making at home, you’re now ready to use your creativity skills and produce your own hand-crafted candles. Take great care to ensure that your children are not burned in any way if you decide to make candles with them. Whether you decide to start your own candle making at home business, or make it a hobby, you will surely find it an enjoyable and interesting experience.
